HERE'S WHERE I WOULD GO TODAY

Big Coastal Threshers On The Chew

The bigger threshers pushing over 300lbs have been showing up off La Jolla and above Dana Point for a solid week or so.. with the biggest concentration off of La Jolla. The reports we’re getting are a few guys are tail hooking them dragging Rapalas, but most of them are slow trolling macks using circle hooks and downriggers to mouth hook them to watch the aerial show, and be able to release them.

Limits of Yellowfin

There is a good size school of yellowfin around the 226, 302 & 371 area. They are the schoolie kind, not much in size, but  lot of fun on little line. Guys are reporting finding them by watching for bird schools, and blind jig stops. When you get hooked up, don’t forget to keep chumming with chunk and brailing bait to keep them around the boat. The water temp has been 72-73 degree. Good luck, and keep sending in your reports, thanks.

Big Bluefin Eating the Kite & Poppers

The reports over the weekend from guys with the most success on bigger grade bluefin were on the kite & yummer flyer.. also the popper was working well. The best action has been around the 302 with a nice volume of fish over the 100 to 200 mark. It’s important to pay close attention to the slack tides. This is when you have your best shot at the bigger grade of fish, especially when they’re up foaming! Keep sending us your reports and good luck.

There’s been a huge volume of smaller grade yellowtail caught just below the border. While guys are searching for the big bluefin, and coming across kelps loaded with yellows, and limiting out. It’s been a wide open bite the last few days. They’re eating everything from fin-bait to the iron. This is definitely a good sign of what’s to come!

Coastal & Island Seabass

It’s that time of year when the big tanker seabass start showing up along the coast and islands. There’s been good fishing from Newport reef down to the golf balls, some fish coming in at over 60 plus pounds. They’re inhaling the live mackerel on a 30lb drop loop set-up. The backside of Catalina has also been doing very well. Guys are getting them in tight to the beach in the milky water. Your best chances are using live squid.

Farnsworth Bank Holding a Big Volume of Yellows

There have been reports coming in over the weekend that Farnsworth is holding a large volume of big yellows! Look for bird schools or yellows crashing on the surface chasing bait. Your best shot at these big trophies have been an hour before & after slack tide. Live squid is the ticket, but surface irons and slow trolling live dines & macks have been working. They’re averaging 15 – 25lbs with the occasional 30lb in the mix. Good luck and keep sending in the reports.
